To earn accreditation, we undergo a thorough review of our operations, from staff qualifications and training, to emergency management. There are more than 300 standards in all! Camp Tall Timbers and the ACA have a partnership that promotes individual growth and fun in an environment committed to safety. In addition, we take extra steps to seek counsel from the American Academy of Pediatrics, The American Red Cross, and others, to ensure quality and safety.

SUMMER CAMP JOBS:
Camp Tall Timbers has a 4 -1 ratio of campers to staff.

Each summer much of our staff is made up of returning employees or former campers who are now in college.

The entire team at Camp Tall Timbers is a wonderful mix of teachers, coaches and college students. Each staff member is carefully selected for their teaching expertise in a given activity area, their personality, as well as their interest in working with children.

All staff members report to camp several days ahead of our campers so that they may go through our Counselor Institute. At Counselor Institute we thoroughly review daily responsibilities, situations that may arise, expectations for staff conduct and emergency procedures. Additionally, by the time our campers arrive, our staff has reviewed all the information about their individually assigned campers as provided by their parents. This is one more way we strive to ensure a safe, fun and personalized camp experience.

CAMP FACILITIES: Our traditional camp buildings range from cozy screened cabins to large lodge-style gathering places. Many of the original camp structures remain, such as the 1920s dining hall (where girls gather three times each day to eat family style, home-cooked meals) and West Lodge (where performances delight campers of every age). While we are rustic, we do have electricity and all our bathhouses offer flush toilets and hot water showers.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Founded in 1927 by Nannie West, Camp Mont Shenandoah is one of the oldest girls’ camps in Virginia. The exceptional Mont Shenandoah experience has kept families returning for generations and inspired numerous campers to return as counselors. Camp Mont Shenandoah’s mission is to create an excellent summer camp experience for girls. In a safe and caring environment, our camp provides the setting and structure each girl needs to grow -- physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually.

Through cabin living, fun, challenging activities, relationships with peers and staff, and longstanding traditions, we promote life skills that instill confidence, develop a girl’s sense of self and foster independence. Campers leave Mont Shenandoah having learned the guiding principles of our five virtues: Love, Loyalty, Friendship, Sportsmanship, and Spiritual Awareness. Camp Mont Shenandoah boasts a high rate of returning program staff, almost all of whom are former campers or junior counselors. Counselors are selected based on their maturity, stability, dependability, leadership skills, ability to relate to girls of all ages, sense of humor as well as their knowledge and demonstrated skills in the activity for which they are hired to teach. The camper-to-staff ratio is five to one, assuring each girl ample individual attention

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: In 2005, Camp Mont Shenandoah started The Camp Spirit Scholarship to help campers attend camp that may not otherwise be able to due to financial constraints. The Camp Spirit Scholarship is a fund within Community Foundation for Rockbridge, Bath and Alleghany, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

OTHER CAMP INFO: If horses are your passion, you’ll be able to enjoy a comprehensive horseback riding program designed for girls of all ages and skill levels at Cabell Stable, our equestrian facility built in 2001. Our goals at Cabell Stable at Camp Mont Shenandoah are to improve riding skills, teach proper horse care and barn maintenance, learn to appreciate and value horses, and lastly (but certainly not least!) to have fun. From the moment they set foot in Cabell Stable, campers are taught to respect each horse and how to properly handle them on the ground and in the saddle. Our lessons are based on hunt seat equitation that focuses on the rider’s form. We limit our horseback riding classes to no more than five girls in the ring at a time, ensuring adequate instruction for each camper. Safety is of primary importance at Cabell Stable. When mounted, all girls must wear an approved (ATSM-SEI) protective helmet, long pants (or breeches) and boots with a heel. (We have helmets for campers to borrow if they do not have their own).

Camp Mont Shenandoah offers a six-week session, two three-week sessions, and a one week-long session, called Roots & Shoots. If you are interested in becoming a CMS girl, we encourage you to send your registration form early as available spaces tend to fill quickly. The full camp season is six weeks, which begins in June. We accept a limited number of three-week campers for two separate sessions within the six weeks.

CAMP FACILITIES: The centerpiece of the property is the 1769 plantation house known as "Endview." The house is surrounded by the fields and woods used by the Harwood family since the 1630's. It has now been restored to reflect the Civil War time period.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Children’s Civil War Summer Camp
“War in the West”
1863

This fun and educational camp is for boys and girls ages 8-13. Participants will get the chance to “join the army” for the week and experience life as a Civil War soldier. Experiences include camp life, drills and battles. This year’s theme will focus on the western battles in 1863.

This annual Civil War themed kids' summer camp has been running for over 20 years. The camp allows children to choose to be a Union or Confederate soldier. They are given a cap gun, caps, Civil War replica hat, canteen, and haversack. Children are taught about the lives of Civil War soldiers and "join" the army themselves. They learn how to march and fight like Civil War soldiers and recreate historic battles through the week while interacting with costumed interpreters.
The focus of this year's camps will be the battles fought in the "Western" theater of the war in 1863. Children will learn about the armies, the lives of the soldiers who participated, and the battles fought during this historic campaign. This camp brings kids back year after year and is a hit with parents and kids!

CAMP FACILITIES: Homeschool Resources Group is an 8,000 sq ft education facility. We offer science and robotics labs, a library, a warehouse work space, and several individual classrooms.

Our STEAM program is hosted by Lord of the Bricks Robotics, our award-winning robotics teams at the Homeschool Resources Group. The team has advanced to FIRST Virginia State Championships each year, and has advanced to East Super Regional Championships in the 2013-2014 season. They were also a Google Lunar X-Prize Moonbots competition round I winner. The teams' head coach is engineer and SolidWorks Engineering's Women in Engineering May spotlight recipient Shari Robinson.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: During the year, we offer educational and recreational activities to support and supplement families educating at home, either full time or after school. We welcome all ages.

SUMMER CAMP JOBS:
Teen camp counselors are welcome during our camps!  Camp counselors receive a modest stipend for working with the Homeschool Resources Group during the summer.

CAMP FACILITIES: University classroom.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: In this third and fourth level summer camp, your child will learn fundamentals about mechanical engineering and software engineering concepts related to robotics. Your child will learn about important mechanical concepts related to motors, gears and torque. Students will be shown the importance and application of math in robotics. Software concepts the student will learn about are programming a robot, reading input from a sensor, controlling outputs from a microcontroller, such as indicators and motors.

Each student will learn to build a sensor, build a robot and program it to accomplish a task. The students will learn to program a robot as it is done at the collegiate level through our custom designed exercises that are hands-on and at the same time give them a thorough understanding of what they are building and how it works. Certificates will be presented on final day, following the robot competition.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Once your child has completed this level and RE1&2, they will be eligible to enroll in the Robotics Inventors Club, an 8 months long process that takes students through the engineering design process to build a unique robot that they present at the museum in DC.

CAMP FACILITIES: Campers stay on campus in dorms, eat in student cafeterias and use the College's workout facilities.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The College of William and Mary Summer Rowing Camp prides itself on offering a superior, lengthier, and more affordable summer rowing camp experience than just about any other program nationwide. Our camp is divided into three different weeks. Weeks one and two are for intermediate coxswains and sweep rowers with at least 1 semester of competitive experience. Week three is solely for advanced coxswains and sweep rowers (a note from the athlete's coach will be needed).

Each session will be coed, and campers will participate in meals and the evenings' activities together, but will practice and room separately.

Camp will begin Sunday evening with check-in and introductions, and will culminate the following Friday afternoon with an intra-camp race. For the duration of the William and Mary Rowing Camp rowers will room in William and Mary dorms (2 per room), eat three meals a day in the college's dining halls, and practice twice a day at the college's indoor and outdoor rowing facilities, which include the Student Recreation Center the new Tack Family Boathouse.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: At TIC, campers choose between one of the following: Programming, Filmmaking, Digital Music, Graphic Design, Digital Photography, Robotics, and Animation. Over the course of a two week session, campers create a project in their chosen option.

In addition to technology, campers at TIC participate in a half day of athletics. They get 3-4 hour long periods a day ranging in a variety of traditional and non traditional sports.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Pre-Band Camp:
Gr 4 and up. Prerequisite: None. This camp is designed for beginner students who have an interest in joining the GRSM Beginning Band (or any other beginning band program) in the fall. Students will have an introduction to the Band Program through the following means - Performance on Recorder or Basic Percussion, Movement & Playing in a Musical Environment, Recognition of Strong and Weak Beats, Musical Symbols & Meanings, Reading Music Notation, Active Listening, Intonation & Tone, Instrument Recognition, Rhythmic Literacy and Ear Training. Students will be assessed and advised on “best-fit” instruments with which they would likely have the most success. Students will need to bring a recorder.

Concert Band Camp
Gr 4 and up. Prerequisite: 1-3 years of experience on instrument. This camp is designed for students who have an interest in being a part of the GRSM Concert Band (or any other intermediate band program) in the fall, however, other students satisfying the prerequisites are also welcome. The camp offers students the opportunity to develop the fundamentals of performance on their instrument and is designed to develop Tone Quality, Technique, Rhythm, Intonation and other skills needed for performing as an individual or in a group. Students must bring their own instrument and music stand. The instruments included in this camp are flute, clarinet, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba and percussion.

Symphonic Band Camp
Gr 4 and up. Prerequisite: By audition or Director's recommendation only. his camp is designed for students who have an interest in being a part of the GRSM Symphonic Band (or any other advanced band program) in the fall, however, other students satisfying the prerequisites are also welcome. The camp is set up to help students improve the basic skills of performance on their instrument and to advance the development of Tone Quality, Technique, Intonation, Rhythm as well as Listening Skills necessary for performing as an individual on in an ensemble.
Students must bring their own instrument and music stand. The instruments included in this camp are flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, baritone – euphonium, tuba and percussion.

All instructors have music degrees, and decades of experience teaching band.

CAMP FACILITIES: "We have modern cabins, some with air conditioning, an outdoor pool, recreation/dining hall, outdoor basketball courts, indoor meeting lodge, and a pristine lake for paddle boating and swimming. Brethren Woods is an American Camp Association accredited camp, holding them to the highest standard of quality.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Virginia Bible Camp is run by a group of local Christian volunteers, comprised of parents and counselors (mostly college students or recent graduates) who are dedicated to the spiritual growth and development of our campers. In 2006, the current camps administrators began operating another camp as part of a larger camp organization. Since 2016, we are no longer affiliated with that organization and are now operating as an independent, non-denominational camp, overseen by members of the church of Christ.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Our Counselor-in-Training program allows our campers to return as counselors once they reach the age limitation as campers. CIT is open to high school juniors and seniors.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: We incorporate sailing with marine science and fun; play on-the-water games like Quidditch, Tennis Ball Tag, Turbo Basketball, Highway, and more! For 2016, we have partnered with the Virginia Air & Space Museum to provide a math, science and sailing adventure for children ages 8 to 12. Every first Friday we will host a Pirate Day, where campers get to dress like pirates and do various pirate activities, including a treasure hunt. During each session, we will have a Parent Day where parents are encouraged to come watch what their child has learned throughout the camp, and of course take pictures! After completing each course, sailors are sent home with a card showing which objectives and goals they have accomplished throughout the course.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: VNB is home to both an outstanding professional ballet company and an excellent school. We’re proud to have been voted “Best Dance Studio in Northern Virginia” by Northern Virginia Magazine, and to be a leading dance organization in Northern Virginia. VNB is an Arts Partner of the Hylton Performing Arts Center where we present four full length productions annually, a member of the Virginia Commission for the Arts Tour Directory (one of only a handful of dance companies in the whole State), and a member of the Prince William County Arts Council. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Inspiration Academy not only shares the incredible knowledge of dance, music, theater, acro, and art, but also instills the love and passion of the arts to children, two years through adults. We believe that the young minds are the most influential and the true love for the arts is born within these stages of life. A positive environment is also extremely important and we stress "fun while learning" in all of our classes. You must enjoy what you're doing to properly learn what you're doing. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Since 1979 MVCCT has been bringing quality artistic experiences to the youth of Northern Virginia. All of our camps are led by professional performers with a degree in theatre and experienced in working with kids and teens. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: "Kids On Broadway 2016" is specially designed for our younger performers. We select key scenes from Broadway's Best Musicals and weave them together to best highlight the skills and talents of the participants. Every camper will be on stage and perform in one or more scenes. Campers also learn all aspects of musical theater.

CAMP FACILITIES: Students are house in college dormitories at Shenandoah and Duquesne Universities. The Workshop at George Mason University is a day camp.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The National Jazz Workshop faculty represents the best jazz educators and performers from Washington, DC, an area known worldwide as one of the nation’s most prestigious and innovative centers for jazz performance. Throughout the week students will receive instruction and coaching from National Jazz Workshop staff that is focused on raising the level of performance of each participant. The main goal of the workshop is to provide participants with the resources and direction to further develop and expand their individual skills throughout the year.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: The National Jazz Workshop also sponsors a year-round all-star high school big band. Auditions are held in the fall and rehearsals take place at George Mason University.

CAMP FACILITIES: Housed within a state of the art 23,000 square foot facility that is open six days a week during the school year and weekdays during the summer. The Center offers dance, art, theater, after school programs and recreation. Our primary guest instructor Ryan Wagstaff is a choreographer, dancer, actor, and artistic director based in Atlanta, GA. He regularly teaches workshops, master classes, and training camps. YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Established in 2005, Fox Pointe Farm is nestled between Richmond and historic Williamsburg. The facility is easily accessed from New Kent, Hanover, Richmond, Williamsburg, and West Point. Fox Pointe Farm offers a variety of services including lessons, boarding, training, camps, show coaching, IEA equestrian team, and has become well-known among the local and regional equestrian community.

Fox Pointe Farm's programs are tailored to meet the needs of all ages and riding levels from beginning learner riders to accomplished riders. Our riders compete at both the local VHSA and AA shows throughout the year. Fox Pointe Farm also hosts a VHSA/BHSA show series in addition to clinics and special events. The facility currently boasts two riding rings (one lighted), 32 stalls, six sand paddocks, two large grass paddocks, four wash racks, a boarders tack room, lesson tack room, swimming pool (for client and camp use), acres of bridle trails, and trailer parking. CAMP FACILITIES: One in-person camp will be held at the Georgetown Public Library in July 2025, located in Sussex County, DE.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Beginner coding skills are taught helping children learn sequencing and terms that grown up coders use everyday to create video games and more. Math and Science activities engage your child in learning and our ARTS program helps students understand how computer artists work in the field.

The Handwork Studio LLC is a kids' needle arts and fashion studio and camp. Our purpose is to pass down the tradition of teaching practical arts such as knitting, crocheting, hand and machine sewing, embroidery, quilting, fashion and crafts in a fun and relaxed environment.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: We only accept serious players with previous competitive soccer experience. Every year talented players attend our camps and challenge each other to the limit, growing in skill and experience. A number of our campers have experienced training trials with professional clubs in Holland. Our programs are designed to help players achieve their maximum potential through progressive exercises that are individually challenging, as well as appropriate to the age and ability of each player.

We fly in our coaches directly from the Netherlands. They are not merely coaches: they are also teachers. Many of our coaches have graduated from a four- year CIOS College. At the Central Institution of Sports, coaches not only received their coaching licenses from the global leader in soccer development: KNVB (Royal Dutch Soccer Federation) but also learn how to work with, encourage and incentivize young athletes. Every camp group will have the same Dutch coach for the entire week. Our coaches will get to know each of the players in their group and can coach them individually, assessing their needs and improving the specific areas best for them.

• A large ensemble—which will workshop and give the world premiere of a new work by one of the mentor composers
• A small ensemble—which will co-create, rehearse, and premiere new work(s) by the student participants
